Quick answers for creating, organizing, and using your Songbooks.
Songbooks and songs
How do I create a new Songbook?
Open the Songbook browser, choose New Songbook, and confirm. You can then add your first song and organize it into sections.
How do I import a Songbook JSON?
Choose Import Songbook and select a compatible JSON file with the iOS Files interface. Importing a Songbook replaces the currently active one, so export anything you want to keep first.
Can I import only selected songs?
Yes. Tap the add-song button, choose Import Song, select another Songbook JSON, and pick the songs to add. Existing songs stay in place; duplicate titles receive a numbered suffix.
How do I export my work?
Use Save JSON for a portable Songbook file or Save PDF for a readable document. Choose the destination through Apple's system interface.
Does PocketSongbook save my work automatically?
Yes. Your work is saved locally on the device while you use the app. For a copy outside the app, use Save JSON or Save PDF and choose the destination through Apple's system interface. Automatic saving is not the same as an external backup.
Writing and reading charts
What is Bar Grid View?
It uses visible bar-line glyphs to delimit measures. Every edited line begins with a bar line, for example |Am G|C|.
What is No Grid View, and what does the comma mean?
No Grid View uses an invisible spacing grid. A comma places multiple chords in one cell, for example Am,G C.
How do I switch keyboards?
While editing a chart, use the keyboard control to switch between the dedicated chord-entry layout and the standard iOS keyboard.
How do I transpose a song?
Use the transposition controls in the song view or editor to move by semitones. A setlist entry can also keep its own independent transposition.
Can I change chord size and color?
Yes. Adjust chord size from the read-only song view. In Settings, chord color can be Colored or Automatic for the current appearance.
Setlists and privacy
How do I create and reorder a setlist?
Add songs to the setlist, then use its reorder controls to set the playing order. Entries can be removed without deleting the songs from the Songbook.
Does PocketSongbook upload my songs?
No. Song content is processed locally. A file leaves the app only when you explicitly export it to a destination you choose.
Do I need an account or internet connection?
No. PocketSongbook is designed to work without an account and without a network connection.
Which devices are supported?
PocketSongbook supports iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later.
